6 DAYS / 5 NIGHTS:
"Mystical village tours Harakmbut / Matsigenka".
The Matsiguenga de Shipetiari indigenous community and other communities, invite lovers of the Amazon, its nature and its cultures to visit them to share and interchange spirituality and friendship. Apart from being a very comfortable and least challenging of our tours it is also the best way of getting to know a bit about the everyday life of the indigenous cultures. We will discover some of their customs, a traditional plant centre and get a chance to take part in the experience of the ritual of an Ayahuasca session with an expert Matsiguenka shaman. We also offer short treks and the chance to visit the "Collpa" clay beds of Yanayaco, at the end if we are lucky we may get to see the giant river otters in the indigenous community of Isla de los Valles.
ITINERARY:
First day:
Early departure from the imperial city of Cusco, the journey is along a road that crosses through part of the Andes mountain range as we head toward Paucartambo, a traditional, Andean village where we will eat lunch. As we continue towards Acjanaco (Manu National park) you will be able to see the forest from a height of 3500 metres. (sometimes the view is restricted by clouds). We arrive at the native community of Shintuyo, where we will eat dinner and spend the night inTambo Weuk.
Second day:
Early we can take a nice hot bath, eat breakfast and then get ready to visit the local Matsigenka de Shipetiari community where we will be warmly welcomed by the friendly locals. We will stay and eat lunch, trek around local trails and visit the community. Then its dinner and we spend the night here.
Third Day:
Alter breakfast in the Native Shipetiari Community we head to Traditional Medicine Centre, after settling in to the traditional style cabins a shaman (regarded as spiritual guide and healer of the area) Will show us the medicinal plants their properties and how and why they are used traditionally and why in many cases they are used in modern day science. After lunch our trek will lead us in search of birds and other wildlife, we then return to eat dinner and those who wish to may take part in an Ayahuasca ceremony (optional) in the evening.
Fourth Day:
Alter an early breakfast we set off on a trek in search of some of the five species of monkey known in the area, returning for lunch. After a rest and dinner we go to the mammal "Collpa" or clay licks where animals come together to eat the nutrients that come out of the earth. The trek will last about an hour and the animals can be seen from special view point.
Fifth Day:
Alter breakfast at the Traditional Medicine Centre we go to Boca Manu, were we will stay in a lodge, after lunch we go to the lake in the indigenous community of Isla de los Valles. We may be able to see giant otters and birds such as the Hoatzin, that is known locally as Shansho, we return for dinner and spend the night in Boca Manu.
Sixth Day:
Depending on the previous day's activities and whether there is time we may be able to return to the trail of the Isla de los Valles community. Breakfast in Boca Manu then to the airport for the flight back to Cusco.
