is an ecotourism enterprise based in Puerto Maldonado y Cusco, Peru. The shareholders of this company are eight indigenous communities from the Amarakaeri Communal Reserve (RCA), a protected natural area that forms part of the great Manu Biosphere Reserve. ECOTURISMO WANAMEI regards itself a company that practices ecologically and socially responsible tourism in the RCA and the adjacent territories of Harakmbut, Matsiguenka and Yine ethnic groups. WANAMEI got its name from a tree that is sacred to the Harakmbut people. This company has been constituted on the base of the old company Wanamei Expeditions while taking on the same principles and goals.
The directors of this company are the indigenous people themselves who now, after having understood the concept of ecotourism, invite friends of nature and Amazonian culture to visit their territory and share their knowledge and ways of life in the tropical rainforest, where the indigenous guide offers information on his home, the forest, and allows the visitor to enjoy it at all times. The porters and other servants of the company will facilitate an experience in a world that is different from the one the visitor comes from.
