Fenamad is a not for profit organization that represents the villages and indigenous communities of Madre de Dios and Cusco, it is inscribed in the public register of Madre de Dios. The address is No 276 Avenue 26 de Diciembre, Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios, Peru.
The organization was created on the 18th of January, 1982 to represent 29 recognized native communities and eight indigenous villages: Harakmbut, Ese-eja, Shipibo, Machiguenga, Yine, Kichua Runa y Amahuaca, thus supporting the isolated indigenous villages.
FENAMAD´s main objective is to defend the fundamental rights of the indigenous villages as a whole and of the individuals that live by the Madre de Dios River and subsidiaries. It also promotes the social and economic development of the native communities of Madre de Dios.
In 1996 FENAMAD received the International "Bartolomé de las Casas" prize, presented by the Prince of Asturia in Spain in recognition of its continued work in defense of the rights of the indigenous villages of Madre de Dios.
